Substitutes
by Juliaeta Velazquez
Substitutes are different; sure, they are like teachers but temporary. What I notice is that kids act differently.. For example, last year we had a substitute, and all of the kids switched spots, and sat next to their friends. From what I noticed, kids think they don’t know! I mean, I am a kid, and I know what they do, but why do they act crazy when they’re here? Why do students treat substitutes differently than teachers? In my opinion, I think they switch around and act out because they think the substitutes don’t know just because they are new and that’s why they treat them differently.
Ms. Irene substituted for Mrs. King when she was at a conference. She said, “I think they act that way because they think they can get away with it, and they think they can get out of doing their work.”
Students have their own opinions.
“Sometimes they don’t know what they’re supposed to do when the teacher explained it to them. Also, it’s different to treat them like a teacher because we don't know anything about them,” Says 8th grader Yaque Chavez
As you can see, students want to have fun and thats all right, but there’s school time and there’s play time. In the middle school, kids do not really switch around because the teacher has a seating chart for the sub. What we need to do is treat subs like teachers: with respect.
