We've Got Spirit, Yes We Do!

Last month, the leadership class put on the first pep rally of the 2013-2014 school year at South Bay School.
Most considered the rally a big success, thanks to the leadership class, taught by Mrs. Van Vleck. They introduced the volleyball teams and the soccer team and played games.
“It was fun and really loud,” said Savannah Diosdado, a 7th grader. “I saw a few people go out of the room.”
Ashleigh Meyers, another 7th grader agreed. “The pep rally was pretty good. It was fun to see all the kids and teachers trying to get the oreos into their mouths. Some oreos got stuck on some people’s foreheads. It was really funny.”
Some enjoyed the school spirit and the sense of community among the school.
“I thought it was really cool cause the younger kids got experience the music and the volleyball players running down the aisle giving high-fives,” said Casmira Johnson, also a 7th grader. “The leadership class did a really good job. I really like the music too. It was awesome.”
Juliaeta Velazquez, a 7th grader, had some feedback. “It was awesome, but next time, the taller people should sit in the back, cause, I couldn’t see over Isaac's head.”
Though many of the opinions were very positive, a few people weren’t as into it. In general, 8th graders were less impressed.
Ethan LeVering said, “It was pretty good I guess. It wasn’t really that exciting in a sense. It was a lot of shouting. The only really good thing was the cookie challenge.”
Beth Jennings agreed. “It was boring for me and most of my friends because we’re kinda too old for that kind of stuff," she said. "It was slow and no one really paid attention. It was good for the younger kids.”
Maybe that’s something that the leadership class should work on. They did work hard, though, and they put on a pretty good show.
