Injuries Sideline Three South Bay Sharks
By Yaque Chavez and Gracelynn Trump - October 18, 2013
South Bay is going through an injury problem and questions are flying around the school. If you would like to stay and read the full story about the mysterious leg injuries of three students--Chayslin, Kat, and Jon--and how they survived you can, but let me tell you it won't be pretty.
Chayslin Johnson, an 8th grader at south bay middle school, got injured while attending cheerleading tryouts. She was doing, as she said, “a cheer move called the potty dance.” She was really brave and held her tears in when she ‘’popped her leg, and I felt like it was going in slow motion and it also felt like I broke my leg.” But don’t worry readers, she is better now. The good news is that she will probably be off crutches in about two weeks or so.
Kat Leahy, an 8th grader at South Bay Middle School, also injured herself when she was at soccer practice. ‘’ I got injured when the ball hit my ankle and I rolled it’’, said Kat. I asked her when she will be off crutches but she said ‘’not for awhile, because my ankle still hurts.” In the end she lived and is now back to her old self.
The worst injury was Jonathan King, 7th grader, breaking his ankle. He broke it while playing Capture the Flag at P.E. Witness, Jace Bollmann, said,
“He tripped over himself while grabbing for the flag.” Everyone thought he was faking the injury until they saw that his leg was really twisted up. He has missed almost a week of school so far, but sources tell the South Bay Anchor he might be back to school sometime next week.
Vice Principal, Gary Storts, doesn’t think the slew of injuries will affect the number of people thinking about coming to South Bay because injuries are part of growing up.
